Netflix started the week off with us at the new club at the world famous Hollywood Palladium for a press invite to discover “The Vinyl Room”. This membership privileged or upgrade ticket to get inside escape is one sexy mutha! I was invited to valet park and stroll into another world surrounded by soft lighting, plenty of plush furniture that feels very 70’s with a modern touch. The walls are adorned with beautiful wood cube shelves that are well lit, loaded with hundreds of vinyl records. At the entrance we were gifted to pick up a variety of Netflix’s stars comedy albums, including acts like; Dave Chappell’s –Sticks & Stones, Ali Wong’s- Don Wong along with another 10 other comedian’s albums to choose from up for grabs. Very cool, this is our kind of party!
The drinks are one of a kind, the sampling of the food delicious (the kobe steak skewers- tender bites drizzled with a Japanese bbq the munchies call answered), the atmosphere is super chill, and there’s a DJ mixing it all up. To add to the fun there is a photo booth in black & white prints that were fun to take. Ironically I saw some gen Z’s taking photos of the prints to post online… nothing is sacred. Everything about the vinyl room was just down right sexy. Of course, this Cannapolitan would be remiss to say that it be even cooler if we could smoke a fatty inside, but then I’m just dreaming at that point. But there was nothing stopping me from taking a little walk and toke before we stepped inside. Let’s get into it, check out the photos.
This EPIC week of shows starts on Monday May 4th and ends on Sunday May 10th.
First up on my week of discovery is a childhood favorite, the OG of the late 80’s and early 90’s TV shows “Peewee’s Playhouse”. This monumental show was at The Greek Theater and it was a packed house. I’ve been to many shows at this world famous venue, but I was in awe of the sheer numbers of people that showed up early and also in costume for this momentous occasion. The only person we were all missing was not there, but it felt like he was there in spirit for sure. It was an emotional night for those of us who grew up with Peewee Herman, but it felt so good to celebrate the invention of Peewee Herman by Paul Reubens’ incredible imagination. The night was a wonderful reunion of cast members, puppet actors, and artists that loved their time being part of a cultural phenomenon that was “Peewee’s Playhouse”. The show ended with a full audience and stage singing “Tequila” with plenty of great clips playing on the screen as everyone sang on.
Celebrating 40 years of Pee-wee’s Playhouse in partnership with Herman World. A once-in-a-lifetime variety show with music and comedy performances from The B-52s, Mark Mothersbaugh and Gerald Casale of DEVO, Danny Elfman, Fred Armisen, Sheng Wang, Bob The Drag Queen, Patti Harrison, Julio Torres, Michael Carbonaro and Puddles Pity Party. With special celebrity guest appearances from David Arquette, Cheri Oteri, Natasha Lyonne, and original Playhouse puppets, memorabilia, rare footage and more. Hosted by Patton Oswalt.
